512MB Ram
512 is outdated. We have that on our school computers. You need 2 gigs.

Hey carputer! I am a new member, and I too am interested in carputers! I am researching options for my 2002 1500 van... which is quite alot of options! What OS and software are you planning on running on that hardware? It seems with some computer know-how you can save a good bit by putting your own system together! I envision an all in one kind of device with audio/video/gps nav/gps tracking/lighting control (for my van!) and whatever else I can dream up.

I look forward to seeing how things develop!

You can run whatever you prefer, personally I run WinXP with Mobile Impact as a frontend.

Save money by putting your own system together
I sell them as seperate components, or assembled, not much price difference. Of course you still have to install it.

That's the beauty about carputers verses a Pioneer type unit, you can add whatever you can dream up. Example: I'm working on setting it up to where my car will unlock and start as soon as I approach it, using bluetooth and my BT phone.

2GB Ram? Why? I can see 1Gig, but 2???? A carputer doesn't run as much crap as a home pc, mine runs plenty fast on 512

I would see 2 gigs being something to brag about, but if 512 works then that's good.

I only drive a 95 Concorde...lame car, but I do have a cool entertainment system. (I think). It's a carputer. It runs Win XP on it, Navigation, XM Radio, Rear view camera, all my mp3's (12Gigs) and more. (working on adding Bluetooth phone now)
Wanted to get you guys thoughts on this, and see if anybody else here has done this?
What, no DVD player!?!?!?!?[sm=joke.gif]

Welcome to the site!!!

Dusty

Sure, you can have a DVD player. But there's some legal issues there if we install them. We really can't, but you can

Yeah, I'm a cop. I just wanted to hear your answer!!! (Just messing with you!!) Enjoy Dodge Forum!!!!!

Actually, you can put in a DVD player, just use common sense. Don't watch a movie while driving[&:]

Did you hear about the guy that had navigation?....He was driving an RV, while driving, he decided to go get up from the drivers seat and go to the back and make a sandwich. Of course the RV wrecked. He sued...he won!!!! He thought the RV would drive by itself... he had "navigation".
