Things I've Done.
Got a job on call 24/7/365 so my 2000 Dak Quad Cab 4.7L Auto, Lim Slip, sat for a year. Laid off and dakota wouldnt cool so warped heads. Rebuild at 215,000 miles, since there were no squeeks and rattles. Put on K&N cold air, Gibson ceramic coat headers, and catback single sideswept exhaust. No detectable power increase. Cold air now comes from under the hood, not the wheel wells, so the reason could be warm air but the 4.7 sounds awesome. Still didnt cool right so got a robert shaw 195 thermostat and flowkooler water pump. Now it is plenty cool. The thermostat I removed (new on rebuild) wasn't a stock thermostat and I think it blocked the bypass hole. The robert shaw doesnt have the rearend shaft so the bypass always has full flow. Worse gas mileage because of reduced operating temp (180 to 185). Someday I'll get the correct mopar thermo and replace it to see if I can get some economy back. Replaced heater motor resistor. What a nasty job to have to do. One year only though, so if you don't have a 2000, awesome for you. Infinity paper cone speaker buzz is easily repaired with rubber cement. Put in satellite radio that works over fm channel. This has to be changed frequently if you get more than 20 miles away from home. Had problems with CD feed. Took stereo out and blew it out with computer canned air. Works better now but not great. Disc brakes were horrid from the factory so put on SSBC drilled and slotted rotors.....perfect fix. 2000 Dakota factory service manual is the best!!!!! Still love my truck after 18 years, it is awesome. Things I want to try....soundproofing in the doors, floor, and maybe roof. Buy new front seat covers for when mine wear out..... I have a 54 chrysler wagon with 331 hemi. thinking dakota tranny and rear end would be a great swap, but would like taller overdrive. Ordered my Dakota from DODGE in 2000 and no buyers remorse since I fixed the factory defect rotors.
