Default New to the group; squealing belt.

I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 passage van, 4 caption chairs, and folding seat in back. I have loud squalling come from the belts when I press on the gas. I have new belts, new tension idler, new pulls, and new alternator. Someone with the same year and model tried three new belts but none stopped the squealing noise. She then changed to a Goodyear Gatorback belt and she hasn’t had squealing in a month. Has this worked for anyone in this group?

Welcome to DF!

Squealing belt is either a bearing going out, or too long of a belt. Try spinning everything by hand. (belt off) Sometimes, just dirt in the pulley grooves can cause issues as well.

It has a v8 engine, excellent records, well taken care of, and I brought it used. It also has an air condition. No problems with the engine or transmission or anything else. It has 135k miles.

Thanks, the pulley and tension idler are new, so is the alternator. I read somewhere else that a person with the same van and year, tried three belts, they all did the same thing. She put on a Goodyear Gatorback or Goodyear Gatorblack belt and it went away. Any experience or knowledge of those belts?

The goodyear belts are certainly better quality. They aren't hideously expensive. (merely 'rather expensive'.....) If everything else checks out, give it a shot.
