Default 1999 Dakota 3.9L v6, P0118 code

Hello, thanks for opening my thread!

I bought my first Dodge last Thursday, a 1999 Dakota 3.9L v6 with 166k miles. Truck is running fine, waiting until my next few paychecks to do the plugs, wires, belt, brakes, etc just to tune up the truck and eliminate any simple problems that be in the near future.

I'm getting one error code : P0118, engine coolant temperature sensor. I've replaced the sensor, still have the code. I used a volt meter to test the connector, it reads 5.15v while set on "9V BATT". I'm presuming the fuse and the wire are okay or else the electricity wouldn't be making it to the connector. What else could be causing the code to continue to come up?

Also, how dangerous is it to run the truck with it not sensing how hot the coolant is?
