Default Inherited a 2nd Gen Dodge

New to the forums. I have recently inherited my grandfathers 2001 RCSB Dodge Ram 2wd. Its the SLT model with the 5.9L. It has been setting under an Oak tree in my fathers yard for the last 8 years and was driven maybe 5 times a year. Cosmetically its in some pretty rough shape as most of the clear has peeled, its covered in black mold, dash is busted from the sun, and all the plastic on it has faded. BUT, I've been driving it for the last week and you would never know it was a 20 year old truck. Runs great for way its been treated. The truck has 90,000 miles on it and short of needing some bushings in the front end, shocks, and a windshield washer pump its in pretty good shape. Surprisingly the rest of the interior is in mint shape and there is no rust on the truck that I can find (I even pulled the plastic bedliner out to check under it. My father wanted to just sell the truck as it was just taking up some space in the yard and he didn't really have a use for it. Our entire family has always been GM guys but my grandfather bought the truck from a friend who was having some hard luck and past away before getting rid of it. He always talked about what a good truck it was though... So as I was over at my parents last week I got the truck running (battery was dead) and took it for a spin. I got to thinking so I got online and looked up some stuff here and decided that I would like to take the truck and make it a project. The cosmetic stuff I have figured out for the most part, but what I will need your help with is under the hood. First thing I noticed when getting online is I'm not dealing with a platform like the LS. There doesn't seem to be a 1/10th of the information out there like the GM trucks. It seems like not too many people are modifying these motors very heavy if at all. So as I get into that I'm gonna need as much help as possible when figuring out which path to take. I'm not trying to build a truck for the strip by any means, just something that is fun to drive on the weekends. Just wanted to stop in and share my story. I genuinely look forward to working with you all to get this truck back to where it deserves to be. Thanks!

Chrysler has always shared hardware across the line, unlike GM. I've got two 1990's GMC Sierra's and except for the color, they look alike. Mechanically however, they are quite different. Just in 2 years between them. Mopars, at least the trucks, tend to have fewer issues. On the dash, cracking is normal. I forgot and tossed my cell phone on the dash of my '01 Ram 2500 and it took be 2 hours to find and fish it out.

Lot's of folks here can help you with any questions. Just be ready for some.....odd....humor. Not just from me either.

I won’t be much help to you as I’m new to Dodge but am certainly looking forward to following your progress.
