Pcm
Hopping for some help! I have a 2018 ram 1500 with the 3.6l v6 flex fuel. It has 46,000 miles on it. Driving it a few weeks ago the service the electronic throttle control module light came on and put the truck in limp mode. I had the truck towed to a licensed ram mechanic. They replaced the throttle body and told me all was well! All under warranty so covered. I was almost home and the same problem occurred again. Towed back to shop. Mechanic is now telling me they are 99% sure it is the PCM. Only issue he tells me that they are on national back order and have no time on when they can get one. Dealership is saying it could be 2 months or longer. This is my every day driver and it’s really putting me in a tough spot. Does anyone know if I can get one sooner? I wouldn’t have thought a truck this new and the reputation of ram would have such an issue so early in the life of the vehicle. Is this an ongoing problem? Any help would be much appreciated!
It's an ongoing problem across several industries, including the automotive industry. Seems the pandemic is still affecting our lives. The chip manufacturers still haven't caught up. Ford and GM have both idled a few factories, due to a lack of parts..... Computer video cards are still stupid expensive, but, at least you can get them now. For a while, even the low-power cards were commanding premium prices, as you simply couldn't get ANYTHING at all..... When is it going to be resolved? Anybodies guess..... I suppose you could spring for an aftermarket PCM, and just have the dealer call you when a "real" one comes in... The dealer won't install the aftermarket PCM. Of course, that assumes you can actually find one...... Likely won't be inexpensive, but, cheaper than buying something else to drive for a while.
