Just a quick hello from the Saint John, New Brunswick area. No idea who might be in my neighbourhood, but I just thought I'd throw out a hello in case there's anyone nearby.
I have just acquired a truck I have wanted since I first saw one on display at (believe it or not) West Edmonton Mall in the fall of 1999. On "centre stage" (not really), right beside the Ice Palace, was a '99 Solar Yellow, 318, 5-speed powered Dakota Sport Extended Cab. All I cared about were the V8, manual tranny, wheel flares, and fog lights. A/C, power windows and door locks could go to hell, as far as I was concerned. Who cared about the pathetic "230" horsepower number? Not me! It's a truck, not a Road Runner!
Well, years go by, and I HAVE the 440, 4-speed Road Runner....and still couldn't care less about the anemic power figures of the '99 318. This little truck is just about the most fun "daily driver" I've ever had. Sure - I can't go topless on a summer day like I can in the Road Runner, and I certainly can't go sideways as I row through the gears with smoke boiling from the rear end, but I also don't dare take the muddy-footed dogs to and from the dog park, load up lumber, help kids move, etc., etc., etc., in the Road Runner.
To make a "short" introductory post..."short", let me just say that it's great to be here, and to have a Dakota that will likely provide all sorts of posts, since I have questions to ask, and stories to tell.
Here is a picture of my Dakota as purchased. A few minor changes have taken place since this day, but have not yet been documented.
There is a bit of a clear coat fading issue that I have to address...likely the subject of a future topic. At any rate, if you read this far through the post, a hearty thank you. If you're ANYWHERE near me, please get in touch, as I'd love to chat.
