I traded in my F-150 for a new Ram 1500 Lone Star! (did I say Texas?) This is Dodge Truck number 3 for me. Last one was a 1999 w/ 318 V-8. This one is the new Hurricane, 3.0L L-6 Turbo. Ford had the Coyote #4 with 410HP's. and this L-6 has 420HP's. Big change for me. Ford was the 2021 Model that had a lot of problems, so when I checked the Dodge dealer, he practically gave me this truck. With my trade-in, and discounts, there was not that much left to finance. (Ford was paid off) It is in the Maroon Pearl Coat, forgot the name of the color again. Looks nice, 4X4 of course. Was a member of the Ford Forum, so now I am a member of the Dodge Forum. Thanks.
Well, the first thing you have to learn is to be careful on the throttle when you start from a stop. The 6 has a lot of torque and it will spin the tires with ease. Went on a trip with less than 300 miles on the thing, and it ran beautifully. I even had to pass 2 Semi's that had 3 small cars surrounding them in the hills. When I finally had a spot where I could see far enough to be comfortable, I showered down on the truck and we took off. Only issue is the computer started slowing down the timing at 103! I understand they don't want you to speed, but in the hills passing trucks is not the time to do that. Not the engines fault. It had plenty left to go.
Mileage is about what you would expect for a 4X4. Averaged about 20.7 on the highway, but then again, I don't travel on the freeways. Ford had the shut down cylinders feature, but even that would not have done much in the hills. Best guess is that it would get about 22 or 23 on the highway if you keep your foot out of it. Engine is very quiet. I can't tell if it is running or not. I hate the auto shut-off feature, but I can't tell if I turned it off or not at a stop sign because I can't hear the engine. That's a good thing. Overall it does everything the 410 HP Ford did only it has 420 HP and is quieter, with a lot more torque.
Wow, now THERE is a review I can sink my teeth into. 20mpg on the freeway?? I only wish my truck would do that. For a full size 4x4, that's positively stellar.
Thanks for the info. You realize, of course, that being the first here, that I am aware of... to own one, lots folks are going to want to pick your brain. Especially folks in the market for a new truck.
I look forward to it. I have some things waiting to be put on the truck as soon as I find the time. I have a tailgate protector, new LED bulbs, and some stickers to cover up the RAM on the front and back. I don't really like chrome, so I have the Burnt Red for the front RAM, and a different pattern for the rear RAM. Already added the K&N air filter. I put them on everything I own including the motorcycle. Only way to go and it saves you money in the long run.
