Default 96 Ram build

Howdy, my name is Dalton. Just to get kinda familiar with me. I have a background in Fords, kinda new to the Dodge scene for the most part. I picked this truck up because of how clean it is. I personally despise gas pickups (for the most part). With that said it’s a 96 1500 5.9 magnum.

Here’s the fun part, I’ve been throwing around the idea of dropping a diesel in it. I have a couple ideas I won’t mention the one it is far fetched, and whatnot I also do not want to be burned at the stake. Anyway the main two are a 12V, or a 5.9 Common Rail.

Yes I know I could go buy a pickup for what I’ll end up into it, but I’d rather have a lot of pride and joy into something with putting hours and BST into something, than just going and buying it.

I’d assume axles would have to be swapped, trans, t-case, what about the dash. I’ve swapped 5.4s->7.3s before.

Any input is appreciated!

Welcome to DF! 2nd Gen Ram section is where ya wanna be.

That said, the 1500 frame was never designed to support the weight of der diesel.. the 2500/3500's had heavier frames for just such an occasion. (along with the 8.0.....) Some folks have gone with the 4BT cummins turbo diesel though.....

Still and all, if its what ya wanna do, GO FOR IT!

The whole frame thing I don't really worry about, if you're not towing with it, the frame can handle the extra 200 lbs of an engine, a big block 440 isn't far off from a 12v dry weight, theres halftons every where bouncing around with a1200lbs plow dangling 3ft off the front.

Welcome to the page
