sorry to be that guy but Batphreak you have it backwords

turbos and s/c can both create the same exact amount of power depending no how smart the person setting up your set up is. turbos are more efficent when you get deep in to it, but for the sake of this argument.

turbos are better for 4 and 6 cyl because they create trq at very low rpms giving the smaller engine more off the line power and there "higher reving" or higher hp band takes over for the low end trq like its suppost to giving you a strong powerband.

i know someone is going to bring up lag but if your turbine wheel is a good size for your engine size you wont fell much to any lag. lag is an issue when you get a large turbine wheel on a smaller engine making it take longer for that engine to produce enough gas to spin that large of a wheel.

superchargers are better for 8's and 10's in an everyday aplication because they already have the low end trq because of the larger displacement and the s/c adds more hp than trq which is more important to keeping the car climbing in speed. and s/c's are a lot easer to install on a n/a engine.

if you have the money and time turbo will be better in any engine set up.

Batphreak whats your reason for putting a twin turbo set up on your truck?

I have to disagree, neither is really better on either application. The only reason you see the response of the turbo more in the smaller motors is because they're typically higher revving motors. You pop a turbo on a 10k rpm nascar motor and you'll see the same kind of response. The larger motors typically have more power so they can better make up for a superchargers parasitic nature. By that same token the new 6cyl that are producing upwards of 300hp stock can now make up for that issue with the supercharger making that problem obsolete. However a supercharged car of equal hp and tq will always take a turbo car off the line no matter how small the turbo or even if they have als, because even with als it just brings it to the n/a specs before launch while the supercharger is instant.

tattoohead, you can turbo anything, they just don't have that many readyh made kits out there for the larger motors. All that means is having to get all the plumbing custom made, which is all a kit really is. You can also supercharge any car, it just takes a bit more customizing.

superchargers are cheaper, but they make full boost around redline, so if you are turning the 1/4 mile @WOT then a supercharger may be for you.
there is a guy on dodgetalk that just turbo'd his 1st gen durango and he makes full boost @ 3000 rpms. The cost is a little more, but I would say go with a turbo.I find that in a day to day situation you would get more use from it. besides, with the turbo you can manage the amount of boost you are generating with a wastegate. Superchargers have a fixed amount of boost that they can produce which is dependent on their pulley size. Do some homework, find out what kind of punishment your engine can sustain, what upgrades you are going to need, and which application would be better for you. If you inform yourself well enough it shouldnt be intimidating for you.

I agree with batphreak. I see it like this: If you want to enhance torque at low rpm, supercharge it. Turbos are best suited for high rpm. But the size of the turbo does matter. I joked with a friend and said how would it be if I dropped this turbo from a caterpillar engine into this 1.5L 4 cylinder. Now the turbo looked bigger than the engine. Advice: stay away from the roots type supercharger go for the eaton type. It's found on mercedes etc... it's reliable, quieter and more efficient out of the superchargers. Have you read the article about the Ford GT500? It has a roots supercharger and I quote the magazine "The supercharger takes 100hp at redline to make all that horsepower." Well anyway point is aside from the little extra backpressure from the turbine the turbo gives you free power. It is not parasitic like the supercharger. You know VolksWagen has a small 4 cylinder car in Europe that is both super & turbo-charged I believe it is called GT.
