I need a ride in your truck real bad! I start drooling everytime I see pictures of your blower. We may actually be down there before the Rod Run. I'll be sure to let you know if we do.

Well, call me a dumbass!! Okay, so I am "partially" right. There is still no STS-V yet. HAHA!! Cadillac has NOTHING about it on their website that I can find. They don't make a 4.4L Northstar though. Everything I can find says it will still be the 4.6L Northstar, although it will be blown.

I stand corrected.
Here is a quote from Motor Trend Magazine, "Although the new STS-v's supercharged 4.4 liter V-8 shares the basic architecture with other Northstars, it's essentially an all-new powerplant..." (Feb. 2005 issue, p.26)

See, GM Powertrain doesn't have anything listed on the "4.4L" at all.

Car and driver has an estimated price of 75,000 for the STS-V. "A bore reduction from 93 millimeters to 91, reducing displacment from 4.6 to 4.4 liters for improved fuel economy." The Sts-V has a very hot roots supercharger but then again this luxury car wasn't built to race. I have little doubt the Srt-8 will pull ahead, even with less horepower and without a supercharger.

wont the srt8 weight a alot more because of the 6.1L vs 4.4L. thats weights it down, and then there is the hp disadvantage. I'm more worried about the srt8 being able to put the cts-v, not the sts-v in its place.

they are both v8's. the 5.7 hemi doesn't wiegh more than the 4.7. the liters have nothing to do with the size of the motor or cylinders. It only discribes the amount of space in the cylinders.

According to motor Trend's test numbers, neither the CTS-v nor the 300C SRT-8 has a clear advantage. They run so close that it's up to the driver's ability. That being said, considering size, comfort, looks, price ($11K less), my bias for Mopars, and the fact that my wife wants an automatic, the 300C SRT-8 is a much better value to me.

BTW, I test drove a Magnum R/T which, as you probably know, has the same trans as the SRT-8. When manually shifted, it wasn't bad at all.

Wouldn't the Northstar engine actually weigh a little more than the 6.1. I think the Northstars are OHC design. That usually means bigger heads to because all of the valvetrain (cam, camgears, etc.) are in the heads. I could be wrong and I am to lazy to look it up right now, but that is what I am thinking....

The Northstar weighs about 507 lbs. The 5.7L Hemi is around 485 lbs. and I don't think that the 6.1L will be much heavier, if at all. So, the weight of the two engines is virtually a wash.
