Default 2006 Mazda MAZDA5 Compact:

Based on the MX-Flexa concept, which was revealed last March in Geneva, this crossover vehicle is the fifth in a series of global products from Mazda. Other vehicles in the series of this wagon/minivan hybridization include the Mazda 6, Mazda 2, RX-8 and Mazda 3. The Mazda 5 will share its platform with the European Ford Focus C-Max. The U.S. version of the Mazda 5 will seat six people in three rows, with two seats to each row. The second- and third-row seats fold flat, and the second-row bottoms contain underneath storage areas. The European version of the vehicle debuted in Paris minus the sliding doors which will be found on the American version. Engines will also vary from continent to continent, with the American version receiving a 2.3-liter inline four capable of 160 horsepower. Starting at $18,000, Mazda hopes to sell over 20,000 annually.

Pretty weak motor but judging by the price, I'd say it would be popular. It looks descent too.

Just bought one of these...We love it...First car we have been really excited about in years...It is so fun to drive. Car has had excellent crash test ratings in europe and japan. We got one loaded for 19k . We have everything but Nav. ....We were thinking about a caliber but we were sold on the 6 seats.

Ha funny you should say that....last time I went to trade in a GM car or look at resale value ....was on my 96 staurn SL2 and my 87 Honda Accord. Lets just say the 10 yr-older honda was worth 1250 w/ 200000 miles and the saturn...heh.....750 dollars. HMMMM...My ex had a brand new sunfire 2 weeks old went to trade it in after a purchase price of 16000 dollars and only got 8000 for it from a GM dealer? Chevy trucks are the only thing you will find w/ a good trade-in and resale value. But Japanese vehicles seem to have a way better resale so looks like you will have an ok time w/ this whip. My friends in the ARMY also say big american trucks are like gold in europe.....he drives a chevy ext silverado....and always got offers from the Germans for it. But that mazda looks okay. I dont know what 160 hp would feel like in that kind of vehicle but i think it would probably lag a little... i dont know the weight or size.

yeah i guess 160hp is weak...thats about all a caravan v6 has! Lets see...show me all the vehicles that seat 6, available with a five speed, 6 airbags, 17inch rims standard and under 20k loaded. I guess i could have gotten a stripped down, 4cyl caravan that the trans would go on me just out of warranty for that money. LOL
