Default 1995-1999 Dodge Neon

Done by:
das2123

Performed on:
1997 SOHC Highline Neon

1)Jack up car, use jack stands, engage the parking brake, and block the wheels (safety first) or use ramps.
2)Use a box-end wrench or socket to take off the oil drain plug and drain into an appropriate container
3)Replace and tighten the drain plug (do not overtighten, just make sure it’s snug)
4)Turn the oil filter counter clockwise slowly to allow the oil to drain out of it
a.there will still be some oil in the filter, so be careful when you take it all the way off
b.if you have problems getting the filter off, you can use a filter wrench or use a big screwdriver and punch a hole through it to allow you to turn the filter
5)Clean around the filter area and install new filter
a.use some of the new oil to put around the gasket of the new filter and if you would like, pour some oil into the filter
b.hand-tighten the filter so that it is snug…do not overtighten
6)Lower the car and add at least 4 quarts of new oil
7)After that check levels and refill as necessary
8)Check for any leaks to make sure the filter and drain plug are installed correctly

Notes. The recommended oil for both the SOHC and DOHC engines is 5W30 year round.
