Default engine application question for ya old school gurus

My buddy has a 1961 Fury and its got a big block but im not sure which is in the engine bay. I am guessin its a 413 RB series but from what i know it could be a 400 or a 383 B seriestoo. What could i look for fast to determine whats under the hood without lookin at the VIN or should i just look at the VIN for starters anyways.

I'm not sure if the VIN gave the engine size back in 1961 or not..... best source for 1955-1961 Mopar info is here: www.forwardlook.net . Most likely, if it's a 2 barrel, it's probably a 361. If you can get to the casting number on the side of the block, that would tell you for sure. If it's missing the raised pad to the left of the distributor on the front of the engine, it's either a 361 or 383. Take another look and see if you can get a little more info.

moe in wichita ks
i think that the vin doesnt show engine size untill 65, or 66. if its a daily driver dont use a cam with more than 264 degrees duration advertised. this is not the .05 lift number. or it will use to much fuel.
