Default 78 360, Timing??

I have a 1978 dodge sportsman with a 360. I haven't drove it for over a year and last week when I went to start it, It would crank but never start. I checked and replaced the plugs and wires, and the compression. Everything seems fine, I did mess with the distributor and noticed if I turn it counter clockwise as far as it will go, it gets closer to starting. I have had suggestions that it may be the timing chain, but don't want to tear into anything unless I know for sure. Any other suggestions??

i would probably start by trying to pour a bit of gas down the carb and then try starting it. the carb is probably gummed up from sitting with old gas in it for over a year. also did you pump the gas a few times before you tried starting it?

I tried pouring new gas in the carb, also took the fuel line off at the tank and put it in a jug of gas and still nothing. Im getting gas into the carb, i'm just baffled. Everyone I talked to said it should start.

You may need to tear down the carb and clean the varnish out of it.

Then get a timing light on it and see where the timing is set.
