Default 1961 jeep

I have some issues maybe someone can help? my old jeep has a f head 134 motor, rebuilt yrs ago with new 1 barrel carb from jc whit. after market breather. carb, breather and motor have no vaccume ports anywhere except on oil filler tube is about a 1/2 inch nipple with nothing hooked to it. it runs good but little hesitation from start and I don't want nothing getting sucked in there,i think maybe went to original oil bath breather. what should I do with that open port? 1 more is how to no if mechanical advance is working? any help, thanx in advance , pine

I'd cap that open port.
For the advance, paint the timing marks at TDC.
If there is a vacuum advance in the distributor, remove the hose and plug with a golf tee or similar.
Attach a timing light.
Start engine and note position of timing marks at idle.
While watching the marks, gradually increase engine speed to 2000 rpm.
The timing marks should move further apart smoothly as the engine speed increases.
The marks should return to the same idle position as engine speed decreases to idle.
