Dakota vs Minivan: Track Times
Yes, I could have gotten something much faster for the same money, the truck is not meant for racing. but, it's worth a few bucks to me to be able to pull away from another pick up.

Wouldn't the AWD hurt the Dakota's chances? Isn't AWD gonna rob it of power quite a bit? I'm guessing if you took a Dak with part time four wheel drive and turned the front wheels off or had a 4x2, the results would be different...especially if you modded it some...i.e. exhaust, intake, programmer. I can't waitfor the new 4.7 in the 2008 Dakota.

When I raced my truck last year, I had put my letf foot on the brake and my right held the gas pedal down and when the christmas tree lights changed to green, I was gone. The Acura couldn't move fast enough.
When I dynoed my truck, with my first stage of mods, I was rating 168 hp/219 tq. Now if I had a 4X4 that could drive in 4X2, I probably would have been close to 200 hp/230 tq. It's a downfall, but I'm willing to overlook it for now. Maybe my next Dak will be just a 4X4.

It aint racin unless theres right and left hand turns.
I've decided going fast is for highly controlled situations only, and even then I feel like an idiot risking my life and my family's wellbeing for a little fun. That is why I got a 4x4. Playin' in the mud. Much safer. Still, there's nothing like an impromptu 0-70 drag race w/ the random dude reving his tacoma at the red light.
