One for the Beater
Alright, I know im gonna catch **** for posting a street race but....
Lately ive been driving my moms beater car, a '95 neon with an sohc and a 5 speed and have always babied it and drove it slow because it has about 200,000 miles on it. but the other day i got on it and the car was actually quick
like it felt really quick compared to my sundance.
So i pulled up to get gas and my friend was there with his oldsmobile aurora withA 4.0 V8.
This kid thinks his car is the **** and after riding in it before i would agree that its pretty quick.
We startred talking and he was joking when he asked if i wanted to race.
SoHe replied to my yes with "well if you really wanna get smoked i guess we can"
We go out to a country road (straight for about a mile and a half, no hills/blind driveways)
We lined up and agreed to go on the count of three(he was counting)
I babied the launch because we had replaced the clutch and im not too comfortable launching hard.
He pulled on me till my bumper was at his door and then i wound out first and was even, shift to second and i pulled a little bit on him, third and his bumper is at my back door about midway through fourth (90-95) he started pulling on me and i shutdown.(i think if i had stayed on it i would have caught him again)
Sooooo
I surprised myself, and i think i found the next car im getting when my sundance dies
Cliff Notes: Kid with a V8 oldsmobile talked **** about my mom's 4 door SOHC neon with 200,000 miles. Launched easy but beat him till about 95, when i let off. i think if i had stayed on it i woulda reeled him back in.

RE: One for the Beater
i think that the problem is that you were driving a car that would be fortunate to run in the 15s, especially with that mileage...and an aurora with the 4.0 V8 is capable of running in the low 15s and high 14s...even the very average running 4.0s should be able to destroy a high mileage base model neon...
