Default 5.7L HEMI "MAGNUM" V8 V. 6.0L "VORTEC" V8:

Well last May, I was driving the good old 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Ext. Cab Long Box 4X2 w/ the 300 horsepower 6.0L "VORTEC" V-8, we have. I was getting onto the expressway which has a loop off of it to one of the main drags to our town (in other words a bypass). When I noticed a Ram pickup come flying behind me, was doing about 45mph. This guy was tailgating me, big time... so I decided to slow down and tick him off.

When the road converted into two lanes, he pulled along side of me and got a glampse of his 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab Short Box SLT 4X4 w/ 17" rims and of course the 5.7L HEMI "MAGNUM" badge on the side. So I was doing about 35mph and he looked over and gave me this smirk... like he wanted to give it a run... so as soon as I hit the gas, he must of because it was a dead even race from 35mph to 78mph! Finally he started to pull away after that... not bad considering the Silverado only has a K&N air filter and dual flowmasters at the time (later found out we had a mild miss on number 7 cylinder, no excuse). Would like to run a HEMI one more time w/ the 2500.

I believe the Ram is also the heavier truck.

Not when I have a 3/4 ton model w/ a long box and he has a 1/2 ton w/ a short box. Even if it is 4X4 and the Silverado wasn't!!!

I'll take you on. I have a 2003 Ram 1500 HEMI Sport, Regular Cab, 2X4, Short Box. All I have done to it is a dual 4" exhaust system and my horsepower is 360. I have raced 2 Silverado SS's and beat them both pretty badly. I must admit those Heavy Duty Chevy's are pretty quick. My friend's dad had a rental while his truck was in the shop, it was a 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500 Extended Cab, Short Box, 4X4 and it beat my 4.7 by about half a car length.

Well I am pretty sure if a 1500 Quad Cab 4X4 HEMI can beat me pretty good, with my dad's Silverado... I am pretty sure you would too! , lol!

you say that you only had a K & N filter, was there any visable mods on the Hemi or was it stock, andmost likely that crappy filter from the factory was still under the hood too.

Hemi + Air intake + exhaust = fast

No I don't know those SS's are really nice but 6.0 liter engine that has been tweeked a little and it barely beats the 5.7L Hemi. So 300cc will get you faster but I bet a super charger from KB would be better on a Hemi then a Vortec, cute quote by the way "yeah it's got a vortec." I would like to see a Hemi and SS go at it with both the same mods to it (intake and exhaust) and see who wins, it'd still be close though so if you do see it don't blink.

Was stock, still had the papers for owner until he could get a license plate in the back window... Silverado also has dual flowmaster exhaust streight out the back too!

Also just remember, I don't have an SS model, but a 2500 Ext. Cab Long Box 4X2 w/ just the standard version of the 6.0L "VORTEC" (364CI) LQ4 V-8 engine.... thats 300 horsepower and 360 ft-lbs of torque. The LQ4 has an awesome mid range, but can be slugish off the line a bit!

proud 2004 regular cab Hemi owner here . I've had my share of races. my main race i wanted to make a point was against a 2004 nissan titan. those owners run their mouths like they have a hemi to brag about but him and i ran two times, and i beat him both times, not by much though... but he shut his mouth real quick.

I just saw my first Titan on the street today, I didn't get a chance to challenge him though, he was going the other way.
