A buddy of mine had been raggin me since I bought my Ram with 4.7L, swearing up one side and down the other that his Silverado with the 5.3L was the best on the road and how I should have gotten a "real" engine for my truck. Yadda yadda. So last night he finally gets to put his engine where his mouth is. We were both coming back from a friend's place and got stopped at a red light on an empty stretch of road. The light turned green and I launched at 1,900 rpm with minimum tire squeal, through first gear he was right with me, then when I hit second I left him behind. When I left off at 90mph, I had a good three car lengths on him. Lucky for him I don't have a hemi, or it wouldn't have been much of a contest

 

He should have won, so don't get too excited. Nice kill, though....

"best on the road" that can be mean different things to different people. but all in all chrysler hemis ALLWAYS win the fastest class in drag racing. top fuel, and ss/ah and this is NOT a reasent thing. in the mid to late sixties i watched when Ford tryed to build a hemi single overhead cam race engine, it didnt have any top end cause of the 8 ft long chain to drive the camsused to much horsepower.

I ran against him twice more today, first run I beat him to by 2 car lengths, second run he was at my door when his governor kicked in. His truck is stock as far as I know, mine isn't; but it isn't heavily modified either.

 

^ What is his configuration??? 2wd or 4wd, sc or ext cab, etc.....

W/ your mods, it should be close, but still w/ a slight edge to him. But aparently you can out-launch the fool, so nice kills.....

 

If he doesn't have a program of some sort, he's being limited by GM's wonderful torque management. If he gets rid of that, watch out on your rematch.
