Default 9.564 good for 8th mile?

I went to the track for the first time. My 8th mile was 9.564. Everthing pretty much stock, including tires. Is that any good?

thats not bad. what was your 60 foot time, and your trap speed?

my wifes ram ran a best 8th mile of 9.451, and that was a 14.86 quarter.

typically, a car with a slower than usual ET, but a very high trap speed, has a traction problem, or some problem that prevents it from using its power from a stop. usually it is due toa traction problem, but it could also depend on how the car is setup...but for stock vehicles, and vehicles that are only mildly modded, its usually because of traction. for instance, I know a bunch of guys whose carsrun in the high 12s, but have trap speeds in the 108-109 range. my mirada ran in the 12.30s and 12.40s with trap speeds of around 106-107, and for those who arent sure, yes 2 mph is a big deal in that range. the difference is that i regularly pull 1.6-1.7 60 foot times (60 foot is not to be mistaken for 0-60, although it OFTEN is). the guys who are running in the high 12s with a faster trap than mine, are typically turning 60 foot times in the 2.0 range...my car launches very hard and gets very good traction.

this was why i asked his 60 foot time and trap speed, as i might be able to tell him where there is room for improvement.
