It turned out to be race day today. Me vs. C43 AMG - long but good
So; I'm on the way in to work at 9:15am and I am driving along as I see a black AMG C43 ahead and to the right. It definitely has an aftermarket exhaust. I pass him and my blow off valve sounds. As I pass I notice him eyeing up my little SRT-4 like it's a meal he's about to devour and I hear his engine start to growl as he comes up behind me. He has definitely downshifted and is obviously going to hit it.
We take a right turn onto a straight road with a little bit of traffic and I decide (although I am not usually one to do this on the street at 9:15am) to hit it a little. I spin the tires in second as we exit the turn and take off. Just as I thought, he follows in turn and hits it as well, maybe a little bit behind me but he keeps up. I cut it off at 65 mph (any faster is dangerous with the traffic and all) and he goes to pass. It's a 3 lane and as he passes on the left I pass right and get a few cars ahead when we fall in line. At the next light he catches up and is stopped behind me. I am thinking at this point, will he go the same way as me - I would really like to run this guy harder. So he follows me to the left and we approach the West River Drive( A real fast twisting road along side of the Schuykill River on which I love to burn).
The traffic on the river drive is pretty light this morning, so when I turn right onto the WRD, I nail it. He hits it too, and it's on. I stay in front and pull away a little up to 95mph and back off (there is a tow truck on the left that looked like a cop) and he catches up. When I see that it is a tow truck, I hit it again, and we run back up to 95mph. Again - I pulled a little but he kept up pretty good. We got to the end of the drive and I let him get in front of me at the onramp to the highway. He hits it hard as we pull on to the Highway and I am thinking - damn, this guy really wants to go. So I hit it hard and tuck in right behind him. Much to his surprise, he doesn't gain an inch all the way to 120mph, where we hit traffic again. What really surprises me is that even with a really bad misshift into 4th I had no trouble keeping up and probably could have passed him.
When I saw the traffic coming I ducked into the far right lane to cut out some traffic and got ahead as my exit approached. He followed me off the exit and rolled down his window when he got next to me looking shocked. He said "What is Stage 2?" and "is it like that from the factory?" I was pretty impressed that his C43 kept up too. After shooting the sxxx for a minute he said that he had just put in a supercharger(so that's why he gave me such a good run) and should be putting out HP numbers in the mid to high 400's, but his tranny needed some work. I gave him props on his car since I think the C43 AMG is a great ride(especially with a supercharger!), and he returned the compliment, saying he was extremely impressed with the SRT-4. He said "be careful out there" and I said the same back to him. We parted friends and I can't wait to race him again if I see him on the street. Maybe if I get a chance I'll invite him to the track to join me and the guys for some real racing.
I just thought I would share this experience - I thought it was awesome that the SRT-4 did as well as it did against a true German muscle car. I don't think either of us had a decided advantage in acceleration at any speed. I could've maybe just notched him out at the top end.
I LOVE MY SRT-4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

not bad, sounds like a fun ride to work.

If every day started out like this it would be a lot easier to leave for work in the morning.
The stretch of road we were on by the river is kind of the shortcut for all the businessman and people who want to bypass traffic on I76. The nice thing is that everyone on the drive keeps up a real brisk pace. I have raced a few porsches, and numerous audis and bimmers on the same stretch of road. It is like everyone is in a mad dash to the finish and no one gets in your way. Great burner section.
