...the final turn (racing experience)
It was a dark and stormy night,....... In Avondale Arizona, the 2 Vehicles involved were a 2003 Mitsubishi Gallant (The Higher line Model) W/ Sun-Roof Leather and what not (Bone stock) with custom chrome 17s with low profile tires, (Very nice wheels But I bet they slowed him down ever so slightly, and the other vehicle is a 2001 Dodge Ram QC, 5.9 (Off Road Package) Bone stock, With 32" Nitto terra's on factory alloy 17's. Chris is one of my best friends and we just had a good day at work, being stupid and young we decided to let a little testosterone out on the way out of work. For some reason we also must have been reading each others minds.
I have never tried to race a Mitsu, Especially one with a 3.0L V6. His car is quick (for a N/A car), and I have driven it, but I was not sure how close we would be. As I followed him out off of the lot, there are a series of turns to leave. The Final turn off, leads down "Dealer Lane". DL is about 7/10ths of a 1/4 mile length, but at the end the road, does an 85 degree turn to the right when heading east, obviously directing you south. It was raining, but again we are stupid, or at-least I am stupid with my 5,800lbs of 4x4 Dodge Ram...... When we made that final turn out of the last lane, we must have been telepathically conjoined, because we both hit it at the exactly same time. In my amazement, as both vehicles down shifted at again "the exact same time", the 2 bone stock, slow ***, N/A daily drivers were absolutely sitting still, next to each other, as the earth rotated past us..... Neck and Neck, I was in disbelief as he was also.... 4,... then 5 seconds in, and still absolutely neck and neck, as both cars struggled to overcome their restrictive intakes, and pathetic as well as very quite exhaust systems. To the astonishment and defacing of common opinion and bench racing harassment, 7 seconds in, my 2 extra low compression massive pistons, harbored by push-rods, and only 4 valves, made the achievement of pushing the 6,000lbs black bomber, to a miniscule, yet significant, slight gain on the efficient, high compression, DOHC, 6 furious cylinder equipped, sleek mid sized "pimp" sedan...... Immediately after, Chris sees this and then backs off, where-after the Dark Ram makes a Runaway Victory ahead of the Metallic Japanese Cruiser, and makes a final victorious pull.... But wait, roads are slick and something is wrong, even though the race has been won, the battle is not over. For now the Warlock Power Wagon, will fight mother nature for its life and pride. Breaking like a battleship anchor, the truck can do nothing but skid across the wet pavement for dozens or yards as the turn ahead becomes closer and closer. Quickly coming to the realization that I was not going to make it stop in time, I knew I was going to have to try and compensate by making the final turn. Entering the turn the 4x4 Behemoth initiates a port lean into the souther exit down dealer lane, the truck is now being forced to cut into the oncoming lane to avoid total loss of control, and possible roll over. Still nearing the eastern curb, closer and closer now down from 80 to 25 mph, the lumbering truck will soon make contact with concrete and dirt. The impact is extremely violent as my right hand is thrown off the wheel, by both front alloys one after another, hitting the curb at almost at a perfect level angle, and are cracked while slightly bowing out the wheels, not only from knuckle disfigurement, but housing manipulation. An innocent small tree was the only victim of the accident, as the Ram of Death, landed head onto the young paloverde, this also has resulted in a pushed back facia & bumper aprozimently 5" on the passenger side, as well as resulting in slight paint removal on the bottom tip of the fender, eventually when the Mopar Monster finally descents, the entire wheelbase of the Horn Headed Beast is on top of the dirt and out of the street. Upon this time I was in great fear of the vehicle being permanently disabled, and I did not want a ticket for property damage, and fined lord knows how much. I tried to move forward as rear tires spun effortlessly, and the small tree would not give logged underneath my Dana 44. I quickly came to my senses after a second try in reverse also failed. I then engaged the 4 wheel Drive and started to dislodge myself off the snapping sapling. In great reliefe the truck started to back off the (temporary would be grave) of my beloved Dodge. Thankfully there was no traffic, and I simply drove off of the other side of the curb, off of the potted soil area and onto 99th Avenue. Then preceded to slowly nurse my truck to a close disclosed location for initial inspection.
All I gotta say is 2 things, I thank God there were no oncoming cars, and 2nd.... I love State Farm insurance. They are charging me the deductible ($250) of course. Everything will be repaired, and are not going to raise my rates a dime. The initial estimate is $4,950 before labor, and before any bumper or body repair. I hit the curb so hard it bent the phuking axle housing! They are also paying for 2 wheels, and new shocks plus all linkages such as stabilizer and tie rod. The one thing I have to say about the outcome is that, If I didn't have a solid front axle, my truck would have had its bumper in the ground. The truck still got my dumb *** home, and didn't miss a beat......... One more huge reason why I love Dodge.........
This experience has thought me a valuable lesson.... make sure your car or truck is fast enough to let the other guy know your going to beat him so he can back off much earlier in the race saving gas, and resulting in the avoidance of circumstantial repercussions such as these. As soon as it comes out of the "my" shop, im going to install an M-1 intake, 52mm TB, CAI, headers, true duals, PCM upgrade, and a much more aggressive cam + 1.6 RRers,.................. I obviously cant let this happen again.
Thanks for your time

DAMN!! Congrats on the victory!!! And I'm glad you are okay... and that the truck is too... damaged... but still alive. The mods you have planned sound alot like what I've already done to mine... I think you'll be very very pleased.
Again, I'm glad you are okay... AND that you won... that was quite a story you wrote... outstanding!!
