Nice car JD, looks like a 69 superbee right? That's one of my favorites and I believe back in '96 one of those won the Hot Rod big block shoot-out by running some 10-0's compared to the Ford and Chevy's 10.2 and 10.3.

ls1 SS can hit 12's with slicks. mean cars. mean stupid cheap built cars with a bad *** engine i should say.
I had one, ran a 12.73@ 109.5 (1.91 60ft) with an automatic (3500 stall converter). I did an air cleaner lid, catback, a bit of tuning with LS1-Edit and gears (3.42's). That was on street tires too.

You ran 109.5! that is low 12 second territory. If you could get it to hook you might have been in the 11's at probably 112 mph or so. Not bad if it's true, but that's alot of hp with those few mods.

Proof? Thought you'd never ask...

I know the image is light, timeslip printer at the "Junkyard" (Long Island Motorsports Park, which is no longer open) was crappy. First time to a 1/4 mile strip too...

The only other mod I was missing my list was the LS6 intake. 01 and up had those from the factory.

I would've put a better tire under it, but I went to the track on a whim. The car would've probably done even better if it didn't have a 6 pt steel cage in it amongst other weight adding items. I removed the cage before I sold the car July 16th of last year. It had 96K on it. It was a Friday, the day before my birthday. It hurt to sell it, but I needed the cash to be able to move to MI.

The new owner stays in touch with me because I am the one doing the work on the car. I should have it out here in the next couple of months to add a heads & cam package along with some headers then it's off to the strip with it. He wants me to run the car to get some slips for it once I finish it. He keeps telling me to open a performance shop, but I see them open and close all too often around here.

Thanks! I make sure that can back my words. Too many guys out there talking about their cars running something that it doesn't.

not for nothing...but the work you had done isnt exactly slap-on stuff...the lid and catback maybe, but the gears, TC, and tuning are fairly substantial work. for those who doubt my claims, as some do with my 12 second mirada...you have alot more work than many of the mouthy kits in F bodies...

this is one slip i found ..i have lots of them, but this one was lying in my other car..the rest are in the mirada or motor home back home. street tires....on 87 octane...4000lb car 7 year old valve springs...5 year old timing chain...about 1000 runs on the engine since last break down.. (which it did break itself down a few weeks later) NA.... not my best 60' (that was around 1.67) so i was a bit off from the start...also not a great pic...but ive got lost of low 70s slips in the car in storage...in case i was being questioned.

You are right, some of it isn't slap on stuff. The toughest part of that was the gears because they were in a 12 bolt I installed for an upcoming upgrade that never happened. The converter isn't an easy task either, beyond most shade tree mechanics.

A lot of LS1 kiddies like to unfoundedly brag about their cars. I find it kind of annoying when a 18 year old kid comes rolling up like he's friggin Vin Diesel in F&F. They show up with their 13 second car like it'll set the world on fire. Most folks do lid, exhaust and tuning, maybe some suspension work.

Your car is a car that I probably wouldn't race when I had my LS1 just because some of those older cars are pretty slick.

i like my car because its odd...and very big..most people, especially younger guys who have the "if it isnt a mustang, Fbody, evo, or STi, it cant be fast" theory, are sure they will crush me...im still a bit under geared for the size of the car. im shifting around 6200, and only comign through the top end around 5800...so my dad, who has the car right now as i have moved and dont have storage, wants to put a 4.56 rear in it, and is in the process of getting new valve springs/ bottom end bearings/ timing chain installed because last year i was getting a whole lot of rpm with not a whole lot of power...i went from running 12.60s, to running 12.80s by year end...then it broke...my dad who is quite a bit smaller than i am, managed to squeeze out a 12.75 late in the year with spare parts after i broke the top end. people i have talked to think that with the 3000 stall, and 4.56s, i will likely get near low 12s...and like i said, i have a very low compression ratio engine...running perfectly fine on 87 octane...but most its because my dad knows his stuff about building engines. many people will insist that im running a big block when they see how it launches..
