NASCAR warns Hendrick teams about cars

By JENNA FRYER, AP Auto Racing Writer 4 hours, 33 minutes ago

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP)—NASCAR has warned Hendrick Motorsports that the cars of Jimmie Johnson and Mark Martin came very close to failing post-race inspection following their 1-2 finish at Dover last week.

The two Chevrolets owned by Hendrick Motorsports came within less than an inch of surpassing the tolerated measurements on the body of their cars. Martin is currently leading the points, and three-time defending series champion Johnson is second in the standings.

The crew chiefs for both drivers say they weren’t cheating, and in-race damage may have caused the cars to creep toward the maximum allowances.

NASCAR is not penalizing either team, but they have been warned.

At least it's not as bad as the IHRA Prostock drag cars that the teams would literally plumb nitrous lines through the block so they couldn't get get caught running the go go juice.

i would think the idea is to run as close to allowed tolerances without going over as that would provide better performance, if thats the case then they are doing exactly what they are supposed to do and they are doing well

Well, if you've followed NASCAR in the past few years. They're been caught actually cheating many times and Chad has even been suspended for a number of races. There's no telling what they don't get caught with.
