The K&N is fair. The first 2 runs were done with the stock filter and it didn't make a significant change. I've had K&N filters in all my cars for the last 12 years and never had a problem at all.

Some of the 03's were putting out lower numbers. The owners were blaming a system in the PCM called the TMR. This system reduces torque through the tranny. This is something that has upset the owners obviously. Another factor that really hurts some Rams are the 20 inch rims. Those things are heavy, and have been shown to reduce track times 2-3 tenths. That alot. You will also get variation from one dyno to the next due to operator differences, state of repair, temperature, traction, mis-calibration, etc. That's the point of using both track times and dyno numbers to check on the accuracy. Too, the calculators have been in use for a long time and have been tweaked over the years to yield very accurate figures. If you get a chance, you should find some numbers for something where you have dyno numbers and track numbers, just to see how they compare. Mine have all been within 1-3% of one another. I think that's pretty good.

Hope this stuff can help you out.

Mopartodd, that Dyno run is strange, why did they start at 4900? Was it some budget outfit?

Bubbleburster, you are not very knowledgable about these things, if you were you would have known that the low torque reading was due to starting the run at 4900. The peak torque probably happens around 3500rpm.
Also, your quarter mile time will rarely if ever give you higher HP on a dyno conversion unless you are running at a track that the temp is below 60F or the altitude is below sea level.
With a Dyno the operator can fudge the numbers and make it read anything he want's it to, so I would trust the quarter mile run more than the dyno.
I hope you learned something so now go show off to your friends with your new knowledge.

well i only looked at the dyno run to a quick glance didnt even notice myself that they started it at 4900 mybad.still got peak hp in that dyno though imho its not a stock dyno(k&n drop in) ur mod most likely helped your hp figures even though u can say it didnt help much it still helped you know.but yeah that is wierd why they started it at 4900 too bad they didnt start it lower in the powerband.peak torque is 4200 not 3500 for rams.and i was comparing 4 door 4x4 s your trucks rc right?but yeah off to the doctors for me gonna see bout taking these bandages/stiches off from hand surgery maybe ill have an eisier time l8er.

I never really gave it much thought, but if I remember correctly it had something to do with the fact that we couldn't run it through all the gears. He started and ended the run in just that gear. He just eased the truck into second/third then hit the record button as he matted it. Only took 200 RPM's to get max power.

That's alot of the reason I think the calculators are important in this case. WE has a heck of a time getting a good reading. Max torque actually came on the second run and was in the 290 range, but I didn't get that printout. I may go back for another session this fall since I just did some exhaust mods.
