i dont want to cage the mirada with a small block because of the cage curse...

for those who dont know, people who run like an 11.48 will go buy a cage, and have it installed, then the added weight pushes them back out of cage time...[:@]

To answer your question, I wasn't intentionally trying to stay above the cage (or helmet at my track lol) time. I have run much higher speeds previously, but again I think it comes down to slipping the tires for so long.

Let me tell you, my times really suck for my car and class. I need to do something about it, A) learning how to better-control that beastly torque and B) investing in some better tires. I think half of my problem is them damned tires.

Getting another pair of wheels and a nice set of slicks will make a huge difference and improvement in your traction issues, I would love to do the same, but it's not on the inexpensive side, so I need to just work on the launch.

hey YAH_I_GOT_A_HEMI. a friend of mine is runnig a set of DRs that are the wide as hell, 315/30R18 or you could get 345/30R18. He doesn't have any traction problems like he used to with street tires on a ported blower cobra. You should take a look at them if you want to make those ETs lower.

Whenever I'm out cruising in my GTS, people give the thumbs up and the usual stares and such that come along with driving a Viper, but when I'm actually looking for a friendly race other motorists avoid me like a disease. Now when I'm just out with the wife or going to the store or something in either our Mazda or previously the Civic (which I traded in on the Mazda) I get all of these people wanting to race. Both cars are almost completely stock, the only mod on the Mazda is a K&N intake, but in any event racers just seem to come out of the woodwork unless I'm in a vehicle actually capable of a real race. I never turn down a race mind you, but I generally got my *** handed to me in the Civic and have only won a few in the new Mazda.

Somehow I doubt that real racers are "afraid" of my Viper, so I dont think that is the problem, but who knows... anyways it kinda pisses me off now and then, I really dont know why I let it get to me. I did have one very good race in the GTS recently though, so I cant complain too much.
What side of town are you generally on? Some places I drive and there's nobody trying to race, other places I drive and it seems like every Sport Compact has a fart can and wants to race (of course my car is "just a Neon" how fast can it possibly be ) I generally ignore most as they aren't worth the gas... not to mention 1/2 the time I can beat them just taking off at 1/4 throttle (sometimes less). That and I typically won't mess around on the street. There have been a couple of times, when the conditions are right and the competition is at least somewhat worthy, that I've succumbed to the racing urge... Usually only up to about 5-10 over the speed limit tho...

BTW, I'm on the West side mostly. I usually go out to Speedworld for my "Speed Fix" and I have stopped by the Pavillions from time to time... in fact I plan on being out there this Sat night.

Maybe the 96mph belongs to the 1/8 mile time? My car has trapped ~95mph at the 1/8 when I was running DOT's and low 12's.
