Default Elliott on Radio this weekend...

7 Second Delay; Elliott to join PRN at Atlanta: After Johnny Sauter's slip of the tongue in last Saturday's Busch race, Performance Racing Network GM and VP Doug Rice has decided to run this weekend's broadcast on a seven-second delay. Sauter not only received a $10,000 fine "for actions detrimental to the sport", he lost 25 NBS championship driver points and has been placed on probation through Dec. 31. The easy part of Rice's job will be easing Bill Elliott out of retirement and into the PRN booth. The 48-year-old former champion and part-time racer recently approached Performance Racing Network about opportunities in broadcasting. On Wednesday, the plans materialized, and now Elliott will join Mark Garrow and Rice, who also announces the races, in the radio booth at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend as a color commentator. "As a past NASCAR champion and current competitor, Bill Elliott brings a timely and unmatched perspective to our broadcast team," says Rice. "We are all excited and honored to have Bill join us for the Golden Corral 500." AMS is Elliott's hometown track. The Dawsonville, Ga.-native has five victories at the 1.5-miles high-speed oval and leads all current drivers with five career poles.(FoxSports/Sporting News)(3-11-2004)
