eh, those years of cobras were pigs too...stock.
Mine wasn't. It was a '97. the '97 and up Cobra's had the all aluminum 32v DOHC engine with 305 HP stock. With a couple of basick mods, like a cold air and exhaust, they would push close to 340. I raced SRT-4s twice with mine and beat them both times. I raced a Hemi ram (my buddy's '04) and smoked him. That having been said though, the SRT-4 has half the cylinders, and did keep up pretty well, so I definately give it a lot of respect. And as for the ram, it does weigh about twice what the Stang does, so I can't diss it either. I would like to have that Hemi in something the size and weight of the Stang. WEEEEE!!!

even a stock 97 cobra should get into the 13s...i think that the late 90s cobras were rated at like 13.9-14.0, but that should stil hand a beating to a stage 0 srt4, and just about any hemi ram, except for rams like hemi777 who runs in the 12s.

but compared to most modern "performance cars", the sn95s were pigs. at the time, they were untouchable by most stock cars, but then you didnt have cars like the evo or STi here..or the srt4.

id love to have my engine in something the size/weight of a fox hatch

but i would never cross breed a car.

I havn't had any first had experience with an Evo, but I know those STIs are darn quick. I have a friend that I autocross with who has one. He raced an SRT-4 once and handed him his you know what. He handed my Stang it's you know what too. His STI has a little less horsepower and torque than my Cobra did, but it has a LOT better traction. That thing hooks up like you wouldn't belive!

i have yet to drive an evo, but i have driven a mildly built STi, and it was alot of fun to drive, and it was fast. the one that i drove was said to be running mid 12s, and with AWD, it was alot of fun to launch

i desire an evo based on my knowledge of the 4g63t's history and the amount of aftermarket support.

If I recall correctly, the 4G63T is a popular swap with DSM enthusiasts.

i wouldnt so much call it a "Swap", but the greatest potential DSMs (talon TSi, Eclipse GS-T and GS-X) come standard with them. msot generations of the Evos, including the last few have come equipped with the 4g63t. also, the first gen eclipses came with an NA version of the 4g63, but with the launch of the neon, and the change to the body style of the second gen eclipse and talon, the 420a replaced the na 4g63.

however, for those less fortunate, who got the 420a, the 4g63t is a popular swap. also many people are putting the 4g63t into the smaller, 5th (i think) gen galants, and the dodge colt hatchbacks of the late 80s. as shown below.

in short, the 4g63t has become what should be every stock V8 drivers worst nightmare. this one runs in the 6s... [:-]
