Raced a Colbalt SS

i have raced 2nd gens out at our local drag, and beleive me, they are slow, i have a 4dr sedan sport, and when it was stock i still spanked em easily. my car only runs 16.1 with exhaust done. i just didnt know why the 2nd gens are soooo slow in the first place.

The cobalt SS with a supercharger all stock is not faster than an all stock SRT-4. That was one of the big topics when the Cobalt first came out. I have a 98 CC R/T and I can beat a cobalt SS. I only run in the high 14's and a there are a couple of the SS running around town here. So it could be possible for a N/A Neon with the right mods to beat the stock Cobalt SS.

Mine runs 16 flat. I'm still trying to break into the 15s. Basically all I have done to the car is I/E. I trapped at 87-88mph on my 5 of my runs the last time I went which should be good for somethign in the 15s. But I usually can't hook up and end up running 16 or 16.1.

I haven't seen him post anywhere. Probably under a different name, coming up with different lies now.

There are plenty of N/A Neons that will leave a Cobalt SS far behind, it's just that when compared to how many Neons are out there very few of them are able to do so. There is even one or two that can best an SRT-4 as well. I had plans on getting my '99 R/T into the 13's N/A, but the SRT-4 won me over first as did it's 7/70 warranty. I didn't like them at first because they only came as 4 doors, but I really loved the way they look everywhere except for the 4 doors. After seeing a few in the magazines and at the local Dodge dealership, combined with their outstanding performance and checking the first one out that the dealership got in, helped make my decision. Especially after sitting in that first one and the Viper inspired seat holding me perfectly, it was at that very moment that I knew I had to get one. Almost a year later everything seemed to fall into place and they had one exactly the way I wanted one, with a slight bit more power, limited slip differential, in black with the Viper seats and a sunroof. The only thing I prefer about the Cobalt SS is that they are available in 2 door coupe form.
What is the deal with the Cobalt RS? I had seen one for the first time 2 weeks ago and they seem to be decked out more than the SS. The RS had the wing, ground effects, wheels, stripes, etc., but I did not see anything about a supercharger, so I gather that they are nothing more than a factory ricer AKA: wannabe SS.

The Cobalt RS is supposed to be the luxury version of the Cobalt line. It is not supercharged but it does have the larger 2.4L Eco-Tec engine in it. The reason why the SS supercharged version does not have a many options is because GM wanted to make it affordable to the younger crowd. You can order an SS with all the same options as the RS but the price tag jumps way up and you will be waiting for your car for about another 6-8 weeks.
Yup, Chevy tried to duplicate the success DCX had with the SRT-4 by offering a car with less power and more bling. Evidently the Cobalt is targeted towards cash-strapped teenagers and college students who want the "look" but can't afford the power.
The word on the 'net is that Chevy is going to take a long, hard look at it's entire line of cars and likely follow the lead of DCX by offering more classic styling combined with bigger powerplants. It ONLY took them 2 years to figure that out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No wonder GM is in so much financial poo........
