New Eclipse Spyder
So I was headed back to the house tonight, and I came up on a new black eclipse ragtop..the first that ive seen (not at an autoshow). I had my phone in my hand, so I took a quick picture as we approached the stoplight.
I then pulled next to him, and as the cross light turned yellow and traffic tapered off, he starting revving, easing forward, so i returned the favor. I didnt preload or anything, because I wasnt sure if he was going to do anything, and if he wasnt going to race, i wasnt going to bother. i mean, me picking on what was presumably a 4 cylinder manual trans eclipse would be like a V8 owner picking on a stock V6 car...but as the light turned green, he jumped on it, and i did the same...he surprisingly hung with me through my first gear, and when i shifted into second, i started to pull on him...by third gear i was far enough ahead to grab the old camera phone and take a mirror shot...
i thought that with the MIVEC system, it would have more *****, even though it was only an I4...it had no badges to lead me to believe that it was a V6, and if it had been, he would have walked me!

the shelby is apart right now...i was in the stratus...
preloading is when you have the car in gear, and bring the RPMs up to the stall rpm of the torque convertor...its holding the brake with one foot, and easing into the throttle, so that the car is wanting move, but its held by the brakes..if you preload too far, the car will usually overpower the brakes, or do a burnout.

yea oviosly your going to smoke him the r/t stratus coupes are fast with the five speed. also the fact that the new eclispe is very heavy and outweighs the stratus. you also have 40 hp on him. dodge claims the r/t stratus coupe does 0 to 60 in 6.5 secs thats pretty quick but the v6 3.8 liter eclispe you will have trouble with.

i think that if i was a stick, and i pulled next to some daddy's girl in a new eclipse 5-speed GT, it would be a drivers race, and lets face it, me, against some little girl...the safe money is on me...of course.
