srt-4 dyno numbers
last weekend i was at a small mopar show and there was a portable dyno there. I was very surprised at the numbers i got when i put my bone stock srt-4 on it and did three passes. Two passes in third gear with an average hp of close to 255 and a run in 4th gear with these numbers....239.3hp @5100rpm and 274.2ft-lbs of torque at 4200rpm. First..is this normal and second is there a big difference between portable and non-portable dynos. I know every dyno is different but the real surprise was the massive hp #'s not only in third gear but also in fourth. One of my third gear runs was a max hp of 264.
Different dyno's measure power differently. Those are the highest stock numbers I've seen, especially for an '03. The highest I've seen stock was around 246 WHP from an '04. The '03's generally run around 220-230 WHP and the '04-'05's are around 225-245 WHP. I know some cars come from the factory with unusually more or less power than the majority, but I think the dyno was being very generous. Do you have a printout of the runs so that you could post it here?
it also depends on whether or not the dyno was properly setup....some dynos take into account external factors...this one probably did not.
it was not a dynojet...it is a portable dynomite and i have a printout of the 4th gear pull showing the 239...i was absolutely surprised by the numbers it was showing...id be curious to do another run on an in ground dyno to see what the numbers from that are....i can definitely take a picture of the printout with whatever random household item any would like to prove authenticity...the dyno test was as i said at a local car show in petoskey michigan performed by porter performance out of martin michigan on 9/9/06. as far as external factors go what exactly are you refering to? temperature, elevation, humidity? it was a nice cold day with very low humidity..probably high 50's
A nice cold day with low humidity would help your numbers for sure. Any pictures of the printouts would really be appreciated!!

Portable dynos always read higher than drop ins........ not to kick a dead horse, but who cares what a car puts down on a dyno, all that matters is what it ran at the track....
