RE: my neon vs. 330Ci --- no joke.
There are no worries about a 440 Roadrunner with 3.23 gears keeping up with an M5 on the top end, it will chew it up and sh*t it out. My Roadrunner which also has 3.23 gear easily could peg it's 150 MPH speedo and that was with a stock '73 400 high performance engine in it at the time. Due to it's nose being higher and air getting under it and shaking the hell out of it, I backed out of it with plenty of pedal left at 145 MPH. I would love to see how nice and easily it would run up and beyond that now since the nose is leveled and it has the mildly built 440 in it.[sm=smiley4.gif][sm=smiley2.gif][sm=icon_sneaky.gif][sm=hia.gif]

i am a believer in mopar supremacy...but i just dont see a 3 speed auto BB car built to drag race giving any real challenge on a long run...just based on the premise that the M5 is built for a road like the autobahn,..im not saying the RR couldnt keep up..id just have to see it to believe it...

Thanks 71RR, I was going to mention that but I thought I'd let it go.
I imagine if I wanted to go roadracing and added an aero package and put the 4 speed back
in it would probably hit 165 before the windows popped out of it.
If I reinforced the windows and went with a 2.76 gear, I'm guessing 185 or so.
What did they run back in 1970 in Nascar? I know they were Hemis in 1969, I cant remember if they were in '70 also. I know in '71 they were running 440's and finished 1,2,3, and 4 in the southern 500 with 426 wedges, but that was with the more aerodynamic body style.

There are 2 M5's, one has a V10 and it's 507 HP and the other has a V8 with 396 HP, which are you refering to? Either way they have a 155 MPH top speed and 4.8-4.9 sec. 0-60 MPH. I have found absolutely no 1/4 mile data on the M5's at all. They do weigh over 2 tons as well.
As far as high speed running goes, it's all a matter of horsepower, torque, weight, gearing and aerodynamics. The B-body cars can get up into the 165-175 MPH range with a decently built 440, automatic and 3.23 or 2.74 gears. To get above this speed would require either alot of aero work or alot more power. I know that mine will reach into that range on the top end. Any engine will need to be built for sustained high RPM's to keep running at those speeds for a good amount of time, such as an oil cooler and a trans cooler. My Roadrunner will beat the **** out of an M5 in every acceleration test made, but it will not out handle one and it probably would not hold up very long at top speed. So if your talking about the usual freeway romp, then the M5 is toast, but if you talking for around 50 miles I wouldn't even try it, legal or not.
Nothing I've read of yours about this has even hinted at flaming, don't worry.[sm=itsok.gif][sm=innoc.gif]
