Ramcharger, Trailduster & Power Wagon Grrrr!! Tough Trucks! The Dodge Ramcharger and Plymouth Trailduster were full size SUV's that had good looks and brute strength. The Dodge Power Wagon was comparable to them in toughness, but came in pickup truck form only.

see thats what i didn't understand. i was told that you can have a 727 hooked up to a bigblock, and at the same timei was told that you couldn't. its driving me nuts. if i can bolt the 440 to the tranny in the r/c than i wouldn't care. less work for me. but i was told by 3 peoplethat i need a new bellhousing for it. only they made them for stick shifts only. so now i'm at square one for the moment.

you can bolt a BIG BLOCK 727 to a big block motor and a small block 727 to a small block motor, maybe they are referring to the fact they did not make big block 904 transmisssions, only small block and /6. regardless, to hook a big block to a 727 you need a big block transmission that is cast with the big block bell housing, you cannot buy bell housings for these automatics, unless you can make something work TIGin' one on there, anyways YES, at least with my passenger car experience you can bolt a 727 to a big block as long as the trans is a bigblock trans, as it goes for trucks and ramchargers, i doubt it could be any different

i can tell you if it will work, just get me the numbers on the transmission you are gonna use, they are located on the driver's side of the transmission on the pan rail, it may take some cleaning to read, but they are there might say something like PK followed by a bunch of numbers.... if you can get that i can tell you if you have a big or small block trans and if it will work.......

okay, i went to the spot on my power wagon with the 440 and the mysterious tranny and where the # for the tranny is on the right side and i got this # . 1C158768. i have my book that i can reference the #'s and this is not in my book. and when i went to the one in my ramcharger, there was no number at alll. i figure since it is the original motor and tranny, that the vin on the truck would tell me what it is. just thought that you guys in all your wisdom would be able to help me figure this one out.

hey charginram, got another dumb question for you to answer. in the 360 that i have, it should have a dual pickup dist. right? my buddy and i were looking at the new one i bought, ( which was a single) but then i figured out that it was a dual. my question is , if one of the reluctors went out and it was running on one, then it would cause all this problems i have right? the missisng and dead cylinders? i'm still building the 440 but i need something to drive now. so i bought new coil , dist, and some other **** to fix my tranny line and some summit headers and collectors extentions with the s bend. this should solve my problem right? i figure that the dist was getting tired and one of the pickups went out. just wondering if that sounds right to you. thanks man.

ok, itworks now. i replaced all the wires, plugs, cap, rotor, distributor, and new headers for it. it works fine now, except that my hubs took a **** on me now. i worked on it for the last two nights straight, and igot it running last night around 10:30. i drove to work today and it makes this ticking noise on my pass. side. hubs are trying to go into 4 and i'm driving in 2w.its ok, i'm buying new ones for it after work. the 360 is back alive as the 440 is being rebuilt to the max.

OK lets break it down for you from someone who has done the swap. There are 904 Small block and six (ONLY) trannys and 727's never to be confused as a 904 that have been put behind everything from a six to a Hemi! To ID a 727 its much larger and the pan juts out where the dipstick goes in.All 4x4 autos from the 60's until 89 are without a doubt 727's. There are 3 727 housings 1 for each 6, la and rb. If the 79 has full time 4x4 you will need to take the output shaft from the RC trannyto put in the rb 727 before using on the part time case. The output shafts are different length for part and full time 4x4's. Tranny, Truck oil pan for an rb and engine mounts are the biggest things you will need. Radiator for an ac RC should cool fine with a 180 t stat. Make sure the 440 has the waterpump housing that exits on the pass side or your neck will be on the wrong side.Wiring is just to extend the coil and dist. pickup wires to the front of the engine. Male sure you have the correct kickdown linkage for the RB and it is adjusted correctly. This is the life of any dodge tranny since it controls pump pressure. Hope this helps.
