Bucking RamCharger
Hello, I have a 1985 RamCharger, 318, 2880 Holley Carburetor (rebuilt Guarnteed Carburetor)
At 45 MPH, she bucks and when going up a hill will eventually stall, unless you feather off the gas and ease it on. The carb was a rebuit from Gauranteed Carburetors, new coil, new wires, new cap, rotor, plugs, new fuel pump and filter. The timing is spot on....I had looked at theaccelorator pump nd found thatthe pump stem link was floating around in the bottom, replaced and it seems to run better but not like it should. It pulls real well until 45 MPH....I have been through both of my manuals Hayes, and Chilton's and can't seem to figure it...Could it be the main jets are the wrong size ?? Are the jets in these similar to motorcycle carbs and can be changes out ? Where can I get jets ? Thanks for ny help ??

Unless you changed out the mechanical fuel pump, you wont have a pump relay. What happens if you just stomp on it at a slower speed? Stomping on it should open the secondaries, but if the fuel pressure isnt there then it will begin to stall out. The mechanical pump is bolted to the passenger side of the engine below the alternator. It is a $14 part that takes about 30 minutes to replace, two bolts, some grease, and some gasket seal.
Thanks IGadget, We did change out the mechanical fuel pump twice, the first one was defective and the second seems to be working. When it isstompped on she will almost break loose the back wheels and it runs great until 45MPH, then she dies.....
