Ramcharger, Trailduster & Power Wagon Grrrr!! Tough Trucks! The Dodge Ramcharger and Plymouth Trailduster were full size SUV's that had good looks and brute strength. The Dodge Power Wagon was comparable to them in toughness, but came in pickup truck form only.

Default 1987 Ramcharger 360 Won't Start

Hello,
My Ramacharger seems to not want to start. I have narrowed the problem down to the fact it is not making spark. I tested the iginition coil by grounding a plug wire and I got no spark so I bought a new coil, but Im still not getting spark. I should also mention, the previous owner added an MSD ignition system to it. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

"is the original ignition equipment still on the truck"

No, its all been replaced with MSD components. The only other thing I could think would be a problem is the MSD's ignition control module, but I dont know how to test it to see if its ok. Im sorry if I sound a little in the dark about MSD ignitions. Ive never had to do anything to it until now.

ive heard of MSD boxes just giving out...but ive never dealt with it myself, and ive used a 6A, 6AL, and 5-something or other. I do know that it happens, but im not sure how to test the box. maybe check with MSD and ask them?

The MSD6AL will trigger with magnetic pick up or with points, so the following test won't hurt it. First make sure you have 12v to the box,and the coil +. Check continuity between coil- and the box. Unplug the pick up at the dist, and momentarily jumper the terminals at the harness. If it fires you likely have a bad pick up. If not you have an open trigger wire or a bad box.
