Ramcharger, Trailduster & Power Wagon Grrrr!! Tough Trucks! The Dodge Ramcharger and Plymouth Trailduster were full size SUV's that had good looks and brute strength. The Dodge Power Wagon was comparable to them in toughness, but came in pickup truck form only.

Default 340?????

I just picked up a 1980 dodge power wagon.
The guy I bought it from says that it has a 340 in it.
My question is how do I find out for sure what motor is in it?
I bought it becuase it was the right price at the right time and it runs really good, but if I do need to get parts for it in the future it sure would be nice to know what to tell the guy behind the counter.

I have a 340 cid in my 1971 Demon. I think they went to a 360 in mid 70's and could not hae been stock in 1980,

I looked in my Mopar milestone magazine and the 340 was discontinued after 1973 due to the clean air act. The LA 360 was its succesor,

I didn't think it was. I need to check the numbers on the block.
If it is in fact a 340 that would be kinda cool.
whatever it is it moves the truck pretty good.
My brother thought it would be cool to try and take me at a light when we brought it home. His 2008 Z71 couldn't keep up.

Next time I'm at my brother's house I'll get the numbers and check them.

Update.
It is not a 340 (bummer).
It is in fact a 318.
I was lied to.
O-well it still runs good.

Kinda sucks being lied to. But all may not be lost. Maybe someone swapped out some X or J heads, I've put together a couple 318s with some 340 parts. the only thing that won't work, of coarse is the pistons. That's why I'd find an older (pre-70s) 318. they have free floatin rods and factory 9.0 to 1 compression ratio.
