Ramcharger, Trailduster & Power Wagon Grrrr!! Tough Trucks! The Dodge Ramcharger and Plymouth Trailduster were full size SUV's that had good looks and brute strength. The Dodge Power Wagon was comparable to them in toughness, but came in pickup truck form only.

Default just a few questions

hello, im usually over on the 2nd gen ram side but i might be doing a few deals and end up with a free 92 ramcharger, the guy said it needs a tune up, and the transmission shifts fine and drives good untill it get warm then it falls out of gear he didnt seem to know what that was all about, the body is in great shape too
now my questions are
how hard is it to swap in 3/4 ton axles of the same body style truck? i have plans on putting in a 6bt cummins and want the axles to hold up
and what would cause the transmission to fall out of gear? and what kind of transmission is it?

Assuming it's an automatic, it could be a 727. When you say 'fall out of gear' do you mean that it drops down a gear or does it start slipping or drop into neutral?

Regarding swapping a diesel power plant and 3/4 rear end, I wouldn't do it. Ramchargers have light truck U-shape stamped frames connected with big rivets. 3/4 ton trucks have beefier frames and spring brackets. Unless you boxed the frame or replaced it completely with a custom frame, the amount of work and money thrown into this will only bring discouragement and loss of finances.

the guy told me it just "fell out of gear" it is an automatic, im assuming it goes into neutral, and as far as diesel power, i have a background in chassis fabrication and one of my good friends owns a diesel shop, so that shouldnt be an issue, the frame and drive train will be bullet proof when im done, haha
