Ramcharger, Trailduster & Power Wagon Grrrr!! Tough Trucks! The Dodge Ramcharger and Plymouth Trailduster were full size SUV's that had good looks and brute strength. The Dodge Power Wagon was comparable to them in toughness, but came in pickup truck form only.

Default 91 Ramcharger won't charge

Hey everyone,
New to the forum, but I have a 91 Ramcharger. I love this truck. It is not charging the battery. I have replaced the battery and the alternator. It is registering on the tester at the local parts store as not charging, but the alternator is good. I am thinking short somewhere, but can not find anything although I barely know where to look outside of the obvious. I just got back from Afghanistan this week and while I was gone my buddy was driving the truck. The issues started while he was driving it, so I don't know if anything tell-tell happened before the issue started. Any help or experience with this problem is helpful.

Welcome to DF
The voltage regulator I believe is build into the PCM. But try looking for one on the bulkhead/firewall.

I am pretty sure it is the voltage regulator. I just got back in town, but left it sitting for the week just to see if anything was draining the battery while the ignition was off. The battery stayed charged, so I ruled out a short somewhere like that. I will be under the hood this weekend and the voltage regulator is where I am starting.

Got it! I was planning on changing the voltage regulator, but it was working fine. I found a loose bolt near where the wiring was grounded. I tightened it and everything started charging.
