Ramcharger, Trailduster & Power Wagon Grrrr!! Tough Trucks! The Dodge Ramcharger and Plymouth Trailduster were full size SUV's that had good looks and brute strength. The Dodge Power Wagon was comparable to them in toughness, but came in pickup truck form only.

Default Ramcharger Issue

I have a 1990 Ramcharger with the 5.2 carbureted motor and it will start with no problems but after 2-3 min it will just shut off like I'm hitting a switch. When it shuts off it won't start for at least an hour. I have sprayed starter fluid in the carb and still won't start. But after an hour or so it will start up no problem. I have already changed that ignition coil cause I thought maybe that was the issue and that didn't change anything... I've tried starting it with the gas peddle as if it was flooded and still nothing... Does anyone have any ideas??

It sounds like your SBEC is finding a fault and then cutting the power to the ignition.

If you can, see if any codes are stored when this happens.

I don't have a check engine light but I will look into it. I have found out when I get the truck to run then it shuts off I have no spark. Also have found out if its over 65 Degrees outside it won't start at all. Today I'm gonna change the ignition control module

the Control module is the computer if it's a "stock" 1990--- and not "retrofitted" it would be a throttle body Injection setup NOT carb.

you should use the key method to check for codes. Just because there is not a check engine light does not mean you don't have an issue.

Also verify that you have a TBI or a carb. when you remove the air cleaner you should see 2 injectors and some wires on the throttle body.

If its got an asd relay id look into getting it changed, after a few minutes it could get hot enough to cut power to the motor and won't start till it cools off
