Ramcharger, Trailduster & Power Wagon Grrrr!! Tough Trucks! The Dodge Ramcharger and Plymouth Trailduster were full size SUV's that had good looks and brute strength. The Dodge Power Wagon was comparable to them in toughness, but came in pickup truck form only.

Angry 85 ramcharer has oil smell

my ramcharger developed an oil burning smell lately, i can not find any oil leakes, i changed the valve cover gaskets, it
smells for about 10 minutes and then disappears.. i ran the truck for a couple of days and checked underneath
but could not find a traceable leak... it uses about a quart a month ( driven about 3 days a week).. its annoying
any suggestons would be greatly appreciaaed.

Check at the back of the intake manifold, and also the oil pressure sensor. (both in the same area.)

Do you have any oil spots on the back of it after driving on the highway? Did you use any sealant on the valve cover gaskets? Like HeyYou said, it could be the intake or oil sending unit. Personally, I'd get some UV dye for oil systems and put it in the engine. You'll also want to get a UV dye detection kit. This is a small flashlight that emits a strong UV light and yellow safety glasses. You absolutely, positively MUST use the yellow safety glasses and the UV pen WILL damage your eyes. After you run it for a few days, use the light to shine around under the hood. The oil leak will be a green or yellow stain spreading out from the leak. I got a truck once that had had a leak for years. The owned just wanted to get rid of it so I bought it. I looked for a week trying to find the leak. Dye and two days or driving and there it was. In the back at the seal on the oil sending unit.
