Ramcharger, Trailduster & Power Wagon Grrrr!! Tough Trucks! The Dodge Ramcharger and Plymouth Trailduster were full size SUV's that had good looks and brute strength. The Dodge Power Wagon was comparable to them in toughness, but came in pickup truck form only.

Default Transfer case swap

I have a 1989 dodge w-150 4x4. It has a np241 transfer case with a 4 speed standard trans. The transfer case wont engage into 4 wheel drive. Ive been told its the plastic bushings that go on the shifter fork. I was wondering if i could swap the np 241 with another model trans case , without any major problems. Any help/info on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You might want to have a look and see if the shifter is engaging the TC. Second if it is check if the cad unit is engaging the front axle.

Thanks for the reply ,this is the first dodge 4x4 ive owned, my 1972 gmc had a np 203, and it was flawless, a sure thing , so this is all new to me. Between rebuilding this one or buying one that works great. I was hoping that more models of t case would swap easily. Ive done research but info dose not or is really hard to find on swaps especially on older models.Truck has 3.9 ltr v-6 which i want to swap for small v8 Always nice to have the knowledge before buy 3 transfer cases that wont fit etc etc. Again Thank You for your help.

Thanks for the response. This is the first dodge truck I’ve owned , always had GMs. Interchanging parts was fairly easy, my old GM had a np 203 ,26 yrs of trouble free use. Was trying to find out options. Don’t want to do the trial and error route, too costly. Ive done quite a bit of research but info seems to be hard to come by on swapping parts Truck has a 3.9 ltr which after i get the running gear and suspension in good working order I want to swap it with a small V-8.
Thanks Again

What does is cost to climb under and have a look at the linkage to see if it's moving? Even if you swap the TC and the CAD is not working you still won't have 4WD.
