1985 dodge ramcharger royal se 318, how often should i change the fuel filter, and where is it located..
is there one located in the fuel tank, i also see a filter on the drivers side right behind the fan lower part of the
engine..., also how do you know if it needs changing...

 

If you don't know the last time it was changed, it's time to change it. Otherwise, its part of the general tuneup schedule, or, every 30K miles or so.

 

You have a carburetor so your filter is either on the passenger side (left as you face the front of the engine) down low or on top of the engine in front of the carburetor. It will either be a clear plastic barrel about 2 inches wide with a hose connection on each end or an aluminum barrel. Some have a return line to cut down on vapor lock so there may be a third hose off the side.
