RE: swap it or not 400 to 318
I believe you're going to need a small block transmission....and possibly transfer case/driveshaft if the truck is 4wd.
The 318 is a much more reliable motor than the 400, but it doesn't have as much power. It's really up to you on whether or not you should change.

First I do appreciate your stopping by and offering your good opinion, I thought that 318 will fit on the same transmission & transfer Case, its more easy for me to fix the 400ci then having the long swapping movie ……LOL
Kindly if you have the dioramic photo, or map for the front axel , barring for full time Dana 44 for my RC78 send it for me, I want to repair the hole barring and seals.
Thanks , wish you the best…..

I don't have any diagrams for the Dana 44, but I'll do some digging and see if I can find one.
As far as the motor fitting the transmission, the 318 is a small block and the 400 is a big block. You'd need a transmission that would bolt to a small block in order for the 318 to work in the truck.

I haven't been able to find a diagram of the axle. Which seals and bearings are you trying to replace? Just the outer ones at the ends of the axle? If so, there is a write-up for it here: http://ramchargercentral.com/index.p...owtoshow;id=35

Actually if i recall, chrysler used the same bellhousing for both small and bigblock motors. i could pull my 318, and install a hemi 426, bolt right up! they were smart.

In the late 80s they added a third bellhousing pattern for the Cummins Turbo Diesel and the V10 motors.
