I have a 1988 Dodge Dakota 3.9 239 V6 automatic. When I go to crank up the truck, I will have to give the truck some gas to get it to fire. Any recommendations on what the problem is & how to fix it.
This truck has the Holley TBI with 2 fuel injectors. I have replaced the fuel filter, spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, & rotor button.

 

Bump for Josh. I would like to hear this as well. My 93 5.2L Magnum MPFI has started doing the same thing.

 

I'm going to guess Idle Air control Valve....On cold start, your TBI butterfly's are closed...only way to get air is through the Idle Air control valve...if it's gunked up, then when you press the throttle to "give it gas", you're opening the butterfly also to allow air into the mixture. Purely a guess as I don't know much about the TBI setup...I had one on my 90 and ripped it out

 

TBIs don't have an Idle Air Control valve, they have a throttle kicker.

Which can also gunk up ... all the Idle Speed Controller (aka "throttle kicker") does is, well, kick the throttle.

I'll bet that's acting up.

That Haynes manual should be in the trashcan.

Find a copy of the Chrysler Factory Service Manual (quite often can be found on Ebay) and refer to that.
