Default What are trade-offs with bigger rims/tires?

Hello,

I've got a 2001 Intrepid. I'd like to put some chrome rims on it and I'm thinking of going with something bigger than the stock 16" rims. Perhaps a 17" or even an 18" rim. But what are the trade-offs of going with a bigger rim (and tires)?

Thanks,
Dean

Trade off is going to be less side wall ... less side wall = stiffer ride due to having to keep higher tire pressures
Also the potholes can severely damage both the rim and tire ...up 2" isn't going to be too bad it's when you try to shoehorn 20" dubs that it gets silly

Shorter tire gives a little sportier handling too so that would be the positive side of going bigge (aside from the style points). Monster size wheels (bigger than 20) are usually just for show and do not have much performance gain.
