Default changing from 265 to 285 tire size

I have a 2007 dodge 2500 hemi and have 265 70 17 rugged terrain and was looking at going to the bf goodrich all terrain and go with the 285 70 17 and was wondering how many mpg will decrease in city and on highway due to this. Thanks.

You should get slightly better milage on the highway because the tyre is bigger. The profile of the tyre, 70, is 70% of the width, 285.
If you stand a 265/70 and a 285/70 side by side, the 285 is a little taller, and will roll a little further over one rotation.

How about recalibrating the speedometer or shift points in the transmission?

Thanks

I thought that as tire height increases you lose MPG since it takes more power to get the tires rolling and increases air resistance?

I have an 2005 dodge ram and switched my stock tires to a 285/50 r20. Didn't notice anything expect it was a little but harder to do a burn out. Hope this helped

The 285 is 1" taller than the 265.

if you have a 3.73 gear, it will act like a 3.62.
if you have a 4.10 gear, it will act like a 3.98

Your speedo will be off 3% Mileage shouldn't change much once you get your pcm tuned for the taller tire.
