That is tricky, because those wheels are only 6" wide. I would normally recommend a 205/40-17 with an extra load designation, but those need a 7"wide wheel. 205/45-17 is almost an inch taller in overall diameter, so your speedometer reads a little low, odometer reads low, and there is the possibility of rubbing. Those still call for a 6.5" wide wheel. 205/50-17 is the size the SRT-4 uses, which fits the wheel correctly but is another size bigger than what is optimal for the car. I would try test fitting a 205/50 if possible. If a tire is mounted on to wide or narrow a wheel, it's performance and treadwear suffer, and there is the risk of it "popping off" the wheel, dumping all its air pressure.

if it is a stock neon with 15 inch wheels the 205/50/17's will not clear the strut towers, I just bought a set of srt wheels for my 05' sxt and the 205's won't clear the struts. A guy on the dodge forum is using a 205/40/17 with srt wheels on an older neon. What do you think about 205 or 215 40 17

the 205 or 215/40 would be better sizes, but they are not recommended to fit on the 6" wheel. The 40s need a 7" wheel and the 45s need a 6.5" wheel to mount correctly as I mentioned above. Good to hear from someone who's tried the 205/50s!
