I am looking to put either a 285/75R16 or a 295/75R16 tire on my stock rims. they are 16x7. Will i be safe putting the 285 or maybe the 295 series tires on my truck?

 

Both of those sizes require at least a 7.5" wheel to mount correctly. I won't say it's never been done to squeeze a tire onto a smaller wheel than the manufacturer recommends, but the risk is that the bead of the tire is not seated firmly enough, and might suddenly lose seal and dump the air pressure out of the tire.
