i currently have 275/60/20 and 20x9 rims. I want to go with 17" rims.
I've been looking at the BFG 315/70/17's and a set of 17x10 rims. I just put a 2" leveling kit on. What do i need to look for in the rim for these tires to fit without rubbing. I still do not understand how to read the rims offset.

The lower the offset number, the farther toward the outside the wheel sits. Higher offset tucks the wheel further under the vehicle. You should be using a relatively low offset, generally 10-20mm for a 10" wide wheel on that truck. Make sure you have proper brake clearance also.
This is the wheel i ended up going with. Americas Tires Says it will work. So i'm hoping it will!!!!!!!

update:
those rims didn't work. The back calipers are bigger than the fronts, so the rim rubbed. You can get 17's, but make sure you specify that the back calipers are bigger!!!!!!
The tires looked sweet, but i decided to get a smaller one. They rubbed a bit on the front plastic below the bumper when turning

.
I am going with the same style rim only 18x8.5. The tires i went down to 285/65/18's.

Thanks for good info
I have been thinking of getting some AT tires as well.
I was thinking of the BFGs 285/55/20.
I like the 20" rims and would hate to change them so soon.
I was wondering if there some reason that you didn't just put BFGs on your existing 20" rims?
I think that 285/55/20 and 285/65/18 are about the same size overall.
Is there some performance diff betweenn 18" and 20" rims?
Throw some pics up

Well......the BFG's for a 20" tire cost 394.00 per tire. I go thru tires to fast to be spanding that much money!!!!
Which is why i wanted 17's......the same BFG tire costs 226.00. Major difference.
I only went with the 18's because i didn't have any more money to dish out right now, and they were the same price. But now my tires are costing somewhere around 320.00. So now i really won't be saving much in the long run

good luck man
I got pretty good wear (at least 60K) on my 285/75/16 on my 98 Ram so I would expect the same from new BFG tires.

Well i got em on today, and i guess it looks ok....looked alot better with the 17's and the other tires. However, i am not happy!!!! When i talked to the rep i explained i wanted at LEAST the same size, if not a bit bigger. The 285/65/18's are smaller tires than what i had b4. only by a quarter inch.....maybe i'm just being to picky!!!!
